Hospital waste disposal

Hospital waste must be sterilized and managed in a specific way due to its potential danger. Its collection, transport, processing and storage must guarantee high levels of protection for the environment and public health. There are various categories of medical waste:
– non-hazardous sanitary waste such as empty drug containers, IV solutions, expired drugs
– hazardous medical waste with no risk of infection, laboratory waste (mixtures, reagents, solvents)
– hazardous waste with risk of infection such as catheters, disposable gloves, tubes, disposable lab coats, dressing material;
– hospital waste similar to municipal solid waste (MSW) such as residues from meal preparation, disposable garments, orthopaedic plasters, diapers
– waste requiring special disposal such as narcotics or unsuitable anatomical parts
